This gas station marked the official start of our trip. For the next 13 days, this vehicle will be our mobile “home away from home.” By the time we return to Austin, we will have exceeded 3300 miles from the front seats of the Goat. Good thing it’s a relatively comfy car!
Our first major waypoint was Llano, TX, home of this really cool looking bridge. So interesting, in fact, we thought we would share it with you from the approach and while crossing the bridge.
Next up was the head on approach to the McCulloch County courthouse in Brady, TX. According to Michael (I certainly would not have known this), the state of Texas allocated money to build the county courthouses, giving rise to the elaborate, art deco architecture seen here. In the last decade, the state also prioritized renovation of its county courthouses, making them popular stops for architectural tourists. Also, as you may have noticed in this picture, many of the street signs in Brady didn’t display a street name, but instead arrows directing drivers to surrounding cities. Hmm… I wonder if everyone is trying to get out of town one way or another.
