We tried our best to dodge California traffic by leaving later in the morning and got to my college roommate’s house in Orange County right around lunch time. We were a little tired of being in the car and were not up for going out to a big lunch, so we cheated and got Rubio’s takeout. As always, Rubio’s salad and fish tacos were not disappointing, and at least we picked a fast food we don’t have in Texas.
We also decided to opt for home cooking for dinner, and we had a great time grilling steaks with mashed potatoes and asparagus and visiting with friends from college. For dessert, our friend Ryan surprised us with freshly baked cupcakes from the family owned French’s Cupcake Bakery. There were carrot cake cupcakes, chocolate strawberry cupcakes, and red velvet cupcakes, all of which got good reviews.
